New Yorkers this Thanksgiving
This year we’ll be cooking thousands of hot meals for our fellow New Yorkers in an early Thanksgiving special event.
This is our third Thanksgiving Special – last year we distributed 10,000 delicious meals and desserts around the city, together with our partner organizations. Check out our video from our 2020 cookathon:
This year we’ll be running a cookathon. We’ll be partnering with 40 organizations, and setting up stations around the city so that those who need it the most can share in our chef made meals. Our chefs will be cooking both traditional Thanksgiving meals, as well as vegan version of Thanksgiving meals.
Why This Year's Session is Such a Vital One
Thanksgiving is about being thankful for what we have but also about sharing with others. It’s fair to say that most of us have had a pretty tough couple of years in NYC, and even if we’ve had enough to eat in that time, it’s still been pretty intense. For those who are food insecure and vulnerable, it’s been an incredibly difficult time too, so now, more than ever, it’s vital that we share the love with our fellow New Yorkers.
Who We Are and Why We're Doing This
We started our organization in the first few weeks of the pandemic when we learned that—due to restaurant closures and the chaos of Covid—there was a distinct shortage of cooked food in the city. We’re a bunch of friends with big hearts, we’re all volunteers, and we have a mission to end food insecurity in our city.
Since then, we’ve formed our organization into a full 501(c)(3) non-profit. We have 15+ volunteer chefs on our team who cook nutritious and healthy meals from a cross-section of cultures. We’re also efficient and effective, and so far we’ve cooked a staggering 320,000+ meals for our fellow New Yorkers. Our kitchen is a place of love where everyone is welcome, and we spread that love across the city with the food that we make.
How You Can Help
Any donation that you make will go directly to feeding the people who have been hardest hit in these times. We have minimal overheads and all our team are volunteers, so everything you spend will go directly into sharing some early Thanksgiving love with the people that we feed. And because we are so efficient, for every $10 you donate, we can make 4 meals! We’ll also update you after the event, so you can see the impact your donation has made. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
